How We Support Children with SEND and SEMH

Our support

We work with children aged 0-25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, who experience a wide range of challenges, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), as well as difficulties related to anxiety, communication, learning and sensory processing. Each child's journey is unique and at GoWise Learning, we take time to understand their individual strengths, triggers and emotional world to create a safe, structured environment where they can grow and thrive.

Our holistic, child-centred approach

We use a blend of UK-recognised, evidence-based approaches such as the SCERTS Model, PECS and Makaton to support communication, alongside Social Stories, to build understanding and social confidence. We also integrate Play Therapy, the DIR/Floortime Model, the PACE Approach and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to strengthen emotional regulation, positive behaviour and resilience. This holistic, child-centred approach ensures every learner feels valued, understood and fully supported to achieve their potential - at school, at home and in the wider community.

At GoWise Learning, we combine the most trusted strategies and therapies in the UK to create a holistic, child-centred programme. Our goal is simple: help every child feel safe, learn with joy and grow in confidence. Each approach aims to meet individual needs while encouraging independence and supporting learning, communication and emotional wellbeing:

Structured Learning & Independence:

TEACCH Approach - clear routines, visual supports, and structured teaching to build independence and reduce anxiety.

Montessori Inspired Activities - hands-on, sensory learning that promotes focus, calm, and practical life skills.

Emotional Regulation & Expression - Helping children recognise, manage and express their emotions effectively to build self-awareness, resilience and confidence in social interactions.

Communication & Social Skills:

PECS & Makaton - visual and signing systems to support children who find speech difficult.

SCERTS Model - building real-life communication, emotional regulation, and supportive relationships.

Social Stories - simple, personalised stories to help children understand social situations.

Play, Relationships & Emotional Growth:

Play Therapy & Intensive Interaction - playful, relationship-based approaches that nurture trust and emotional expression.

Floortime (DIR Model) - following the child's lead to develop social-emotional skills through meaningful play.

PACE Model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) - creating safety and connection for children with attachment or trauma.

Emotional Regulation & Behaviour Support:

Zones of Regulation - teaching children to understand feelings and use tools to stay calm and focused.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) - reducing challenging behaviour by understanding needs and teaching positive skills.

Thrive Approach - helping children build resilience and strong emotional foundations.

Sensory & Wellbeing Support:

Sensory Integration Therapy - tailored activities to help children manage sensory needs (sound, touch, movement).

Attachment Aware & Trauma Informed Practice - consistent, nurturing care that supports children who've had difficult early experiences.

Soothing Environment & Balanced Routines - Through gentle routines and sensory-friendly adjustments, we promote balance, comfort and a genuine sense of wellbeing in every learning moment.

Why Families Choose Us:

We use proven, evidence-based approaches recognised across the UK. Every strategy is personalised to your child's needs, strengths and interests.

We focus on the whole child - communication, emotions, relationships, independence and wellbeing.

Our team works closely with families and local authorities to ensure consistent, long-lasting progress.

With us, each child is not just supported - they are understood, valued and given the tools to thrive.

Progress with Social Skills and School Integration

I never imagined we would see such positive changes in such a short time (7 months)

When we started my son struggled with routines, expectations and understanding how to connect with others. School was overwhelming and he had very limited communication.

Now he's able to take part in school activities, understands what's expected of him, follows routines and even says a few words to express himself. He's eating a much wider variety of foods after being gradually introduced to new textures and tastes. He even takes part in cooking activities, which has helped him feel more confident and curious about trying new things.

He's happier, calmer and genuinely enjoys being part of his school environment. I couldn't be more thankful for the support and care my son has received.

Exceptional Individualised Tutoring and Communication

From the very beginning, the communication was clear, honest and consistent.I always knew exactly how my son was progressing each week. For the first time, I felt truly involved in his learning journey and could see how much care and thought went into every session. The lessons were tailored perfectly to my son's needs, concentration and interests, which made such a difference.

He was genuinely engaged and started to enjoy learning again. My son's confidence has flourished through his sessions, while his EHCP goals have been met ahead of schedule. The final report reflected just how much he had achieved and even helped him secure a school place. This is something we had been working toward for a long time.

Overcoming Anxiety and Enjoying Learning

I am beyond happy with the progress my son has made through his one-to-one sessions. At first, he was extremely anxious, finding it hard to cope with new people and environments. But right from the start, everything was handled with so much patience, care and understanding. Before sessions began, we received a personalised social story that explained who his tutor was, what would happen and what to expect during the lessons. We went through it several times together and it made such a difference. When he finally met his tutor, he was calm, smiling and instantly comfortable.

Now he absolutely loves his individualised tutoring sessions. He's starting to make marks with gentle hand-over-hand support, enjoys cooking and sensory activities and looks forward to every lesson. Communication is excellent. I always know how he's progressing and what new goals he's working on.One of the sweetest things is hearing him hum the songs his tutor sings during lessons. His eyes light up with excitement.

The creative and structured approach has helped him feel safe, engaged and confident in his learning. Outstanding support and progress.

Improved Concentration and Engagement

My daughter used to have such a short attention span and struggled with following routines or doing any activity. Now she gets excited to see what's planned each day and loves helping get the activities ready. She enjoys exploring them one by one while the tutor explains everything.

Her concentration has improved so much! She can focus on an activity for 10-40 minutes depending on her interest. She's also much better at listening, cooperating and joining in.

It's amazing to see her enjoying learning and gaining confidence.

How It Works

At GoWise Learning, we believe that the right support begins with understanding your child's needs. Our process is simple, personal and designed to make every family feel confident from the very first step.

Help your child find their happy place in learning - where growth, confidence and curiosity come together.

Step One:
Free Consultation

Begin your child's journey by completing our short enquiry form — take your time to tell us about their learning needs, interests and goals. After carefully reviewing the information you've shared, our friendly team will get in touch within 2-3 working days.

Alternatively, you can get in touch with us directly and book a free consultation with one of our friendly education consultants. Call us on (+44) 7398 693 595 or email us at info@gowiselearning.co.uk - we're happy to help.During this conversation, we'll listen carefully and gather all the information needed to create your child's Individualised Learning Plan (ILP). This ensures we understand exactly what support will help your child feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

To begin the matching process and prepare your child's ILP, a small non-refundable admin fee applies, as outlined in our Terms of Service.

Step Two:
Tutor Match & Planning

Once we have a full picture of your child's needs, we carefully select the tutor who is the best fit for their learning profile and personality.

You'll be notified as soon as a match is found - usually within 1-5 days, and sometimes as quickly as the same day.

Before the first session, your tutor will review your child's ILP to ensure a smooth, confident and welcoming start.

Step Three:
Paid Trial Session

We recommend starting with a trial session.

This allows your child and tutor to spend a full session together, building rapport and ensuring our approach feels right for your family.

After the trial, we'll follow up with a call or email to gather your feedback and answer any questions. There's no obligation to continue - we want every family to feel completely comfortable before committing.

Creative learning with tutor and child

Step Four: Ongoing Support & Learning Blocks

If you choose to continue, we'll help you select the tutoring package that best suits your child and your family.

We work in blocks of four sessions.

After the paid trial session, if you decide to continue, we will invoice you for your first full block of four sessions. Each block is paid in advance to ensure consistent, uninterrupted support for your child.

Your tutor will provide ongoing updates and feedback, so you can see your child's progress, confidence and love of learning grow with every session.
